Planning your trip to Morocco

When to go, what budget to plan, how to get around: the essentials for travelling smoothly across the Kingdom.

When to go?

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best times for a trip combining cities, mountains and desert: mild temperatures and superb light.

In summer, favour the Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir, Dakhla), tempered by the trade winds. In winter, the south and central cities stay pleasant while the Atlas can be snowy.

Budget & money

The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD), not convertible outside the country: exchange on arrival or withdraw from ATMs. Always keep cash for souks, taxis and small shops.

Morocco remains an affordable destination: local meals, transport and accommodation offer great value. Bargaining is customary in the souks.

Getting around

The train network (ONCF), including the Al Boraq high-speed line between Tangier and Casablanca, links the major cities efficiently. Buses (CTM, Supratours) and shared grands taxis complete the network.

To explore the south and the valleys at your own pace, renting a car or hiring a private driver offers the greatest freedom.

Health & safety

No vaccine is compulsory for travellers coming from Europe. Drink bottled water and protect yourself from the sun, especially in the south.

Morocco is a welcoming destination. As everywhere, stay alert in very touristy areas and agree the taxi fare before getting in.

Entry requirements

For many countries (including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, the UK and the US), a valid passport is enough for a tourist stay of under 90 days, without a visa.

Always check your passport validity and the current entry conditions with official authorities before departure.

Culture & etiquette

Morocco is a Muslim country devoted to hospitality. Modest clothing is appreciated in medinas and places of worship. Ask before photographing people.

A few words of Arabic or Berber, a shared tea, a smile: human connection is at the heart of the Moroccan experience.
